Dr. Matthias Catón's policy and research interests are in international politics and international cooperation. He is particularly interested in the effectiveness and legitimacy of global governance and in development and international economics. Catón also deals with broader questions of democracy and democratization, especially related to elections.

As overarching themes Catón is interested in decision-making and implementation, both globally and in organizations. Leadership, strategy and management are therefore important aspects of his work, as are information and communication technologies and the way they change our work and our lifes.

Catón frequently reviews articles and project proposals, among others for the European Journal of Political Research, the Journal of Legislative Studies, the Swedish development cooperation agency Sida and the Czech Science Foundation.
