Baden-Württemberg Certificate of Higher Education Didactics

In addition to his practical experience from five semesters of university teaching and from presentations and speeches to expert audiences, political practitioners and in adult education Dr. Matthias Catón has a sound didactical formation.

Between 2004 and 2005 he has participated in a comprehensive programme in higher education didactics at the University of Heidelberg and completed it with the „Baden-Württemberg Zertifikat Hochschullehre” (Baden-Württemberg Certificate of Higher Education Didactics).

The programme consists of a total of 200 hours of classes in three modules with the following topics:

  • Four days of workshop on the fundamentals of teaching and learning
  • Mutual counselling and exchange of experiences with colleagues at regular meetings during one semester
  • Visit and evaluation of one of his classes by an expert from the University of Heidelberg's Center for Didactics, including comprehensive feedback
  • Workshops on project management, voice training, motivation of students and oral examinations (two days each)
  • Planning and realization of a course with experimental character during one semester
  • Substantial reflection and documentation of each of the modules
